My name is Diane Nickerson. I am the Director of the Mercer County Wildlife Center. In my world, being Director means doing some of everything -- from record keeping to wild animal triage, feeding the baby bats to conducting educational outreach programs. Every day there is something new, different and unexpected.

Why do you care?

Why? I do this because I get the opportunity to train the next generation of wildlife rehabilitators. I also get to see the eyes of a fourth-grader when he or she recognizes the uniqueness and majesty of these  animals -- our wildlife. I like to believe that I am working myself out of a job and making rehabilitation unnecessary by helping people see the beauty and importance of our wildlife species and  their habitats. It is incumbent upon us to be better neighbors and learn to peacefully coexist.
